Apple Announces tvOS 17, Including FaceTime and New Control Center

The call itself will display on whatever screen is connected to the Apple TV (likely a television or possibly a monitor). Additionally, tvOS 17 will have a newly-designed control center and allow you to Find My Remote using the built-in remote app on an iPhone. As elegantly slim the remote is, it can easily get lost so now there’s a way to find it without tearing out all the couch cushions.
Later this year, the Apple TV 4K 2022 will wirelessly pair with an iPhone or iPad to use its camera for FaceTime video calls. The call will display on the television connected to the Apple TV. In a rather surprising move, Apple actually named and announced tvOS 17 properly at WWDC23. With features such as FaceTime support, redesigned Control Center and so much more, Apple made tvOS a lot nicer and useful compared to before.
Not only will FaceTime make tvOS 17 one of the biggest software updates to Apple TV in years, but there’s also Third-party VPN support which enables developers to create VPN apps for Apple TV. Beta software, also referred to as a preview, seed, or release candidate, is a version of software that’s still under development and not yet released to the public. This software is intended only for installation on development devices registered under your Apple Developer Program membership. Registered development devices can be upgraded to future beta releases and the public version of the software. Attempting to install beta software in an unauthorized manner violates Apple policy and could render your device unusable and necessitate an out-of-warranty repair. Make sure to back up your devices before installing beta software and install only on devices and systems that you’re prepared to erase if necessary.

Anyway, if you’re here and want to download and install tvOS 17 beta onto your Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD. The process is extremely simple, especially if you have the latest tvOS update installed. Therefore, we will highly recommend installing that update onto your Apple TV first and save yourself from a lot of trouble.
The Continuity Camera API is becoming available to developers, so it can be utilized by other apps. Apple said that video conferencing apps like Webex by Cisco and Zoom will launch on tvOS later this year. In addition to iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS 14 Sonoma and especially Apple Vision Pro with visionOS, the Apple TV software also comes with news. For example, instead of having rows with 5 applications, now there are rows of 6 applications. And it is that changes are coming for compatible Apple TVs that can install tvOS 17.
Non-Apple apps like Zoom and Webex will also come to Apple TV, and you’ll even be able to use Center Stage with all these apps, which will frame you while you sit in front of the TV. Apple has unveiled tvOS at its WWDC conference, the latest update for its Apple TV 4K media streamer. While there isn’t much in the way of AV upgrades, there are a few notable new features for navigation and the user experience. Just like with every other operating system, Apple will open a developer beta after its Worldwide Developers Conference keynote; this year’s event is June 5.
